Fireworks Photography on Chinese New Year’s eve

We decided to have some fun experimenting with firework photography on a family outing to see a local Chinese New Year show at Kek Lok Temple in Ipoh. It seems we weren’t the only ones as out of the half dozen tripods that sprouted in the field in front of the firework ‘zone’ we met up with a couple of familiar faces, including a local professional photographer! A bit daunting to see so many other lenses getting ready…and a little conspicuous in front of many local folks who must have been wondering what all the photographic fuss was about.

The display was only a few minutes and we weren’t sure how high or wide the show was going to be, so there was some frantic re-framing and hurried button pushing! We also ended up being showered with quite a bit of smouldering debris to make it even more exciting.
